Since time immemorial, this was a traditional way of achieving tan. With time, people discovered better ways of doing it and since then, there have been major changes in this industry. Due to the presence of the ultraviolet rays, which are known to cause major harm people have stopped the habit. This ray is primarily responsible for giving the skin the tan. The tan effect is mainly felt in the second layer of the skin.

This is by stimulating the melanomas to produce melanin, a skin pigment. The melanin that is produced during this time is what causes the tan. This process takes some bit of time. That is the very reason why one can not achieve a tan within a day. To get the melanomas, it takes one about two days or so. After that, the melanin production takes place within a few hours. When one gets used to this process, it takes around seven consecutive days to achieve the final desired results.

The harmful side of basking has a greater effect than the advantages. These effects are determined by some factors. The best known is the time that one is exposed. Longer exposure may cause blisters, burns or swellings. Finally one might fall sick.

One may get skin cancer. Once infected, it would take a very long time to heal. Hence, nobody would even want to think of contracting it, leave alone seeing someone who has the disease. Those with pale skins are more likely to get it.

It also causes quicker aging of the skin. This makes one to have a series of wrinkles. This happens because the collagen, which is a constituent of your skin, gets damaged. The state is irreversible and hence one has to avoid it at all due costs. This may be prevented by use of sunscreens.

When summer approaches, everyone desires to go outside to bask. This is not a problem if it is done once in a while. To some, it has become a complete addiction. Some are not aware of the effects, while others are very much informed but tend to give a cold shoulder over the issue. This has raised the concerns of several dermatologists.

With this information, one should be well informed. One must learn to make the right choices. This is especially when it comes to Tanning Sun.
